ATWT: Reid Kisses Luke!!

I just watched today's ep of ATWT and I am Flying High! Reid kissed Luke and I've officially gone Fan Girl Crazy for LuRe. Good actors, awesome chemistry and fab writing - that's what makes a Great Couple (gay or straight.) Luke and Reid are my favorite newbie couple (sorry Noah). I'm sure I'll write more about my LuRe Love at some point, but until then, here's The Kiss:

Why I Am Bored With US Soaps

Okay I know what you are thinking, another post by the crazy man about disliking programming that has been on longer then he's been around, correct? Well let's hold off the bashing until I finish talking...or rather typing I guess it is.

Recently I have been examining the soap opera industry trying to get back the passion and love that I had for the industry just a few years ago. But with the cancellation of the soap that got me into the industry (Passions) and my favorite soap of 2009 period (Guiding Light) I have been finding it harder and harder to enjoy these series.

Now As the World Turns is about to stop turning, and I cannot bring myself to tune into that dreadful series for fear that I will only hate myself more if I do.

The Industry as a whole has lost it's will to live. One Life To Live has never fully recovered from the 2007 writers strike, Bold and the Beautiful is banking on a few more years of Ridge/Brooke/Taylor triangle before they have to call that mess quits. Then we have the "NUMBER ONE!" rated soap having doppelgangers, fake deaths, baby switching, craziness along with horrendous acting.

With that said General Hospital and Days Of Our Lives have both been, arguably, good as of late. The problem is that both of those series have series issues. General Hospital completely blew (in the minds of a lot of fans and some crew) the whole Kristina / Keifer abuse storyline by essentially ending it to quickly and having no real long term conseqences come out of it except that Alexis ran someone else over. DAYS meanwhile just needs to continue to beef up its younger actors with um...more capable hands, and keep improving the day-to-day writing.

Now this post wasn't for me to say that I am "GIVING UP" on the industry, far from it! I truly want the industry to survive, but I am personally getting tired fo the same old crap being on my screen when I could spend that time watching another soap that is either still airing in another country, or I could be watching repeats of classic soaps (Like Dark Shadows, the Aussie soap Sons and Daughters, and many others). Will I give up on the current US line up? Not yet, but I might be tempted to cut back some of my US Soap Viewing if things continue the way they are.

Do you agree with the points I made? Or are you on the complete opposite end and think I am full of it? Let me hear your thoughts and lets debate it in the comments below.

Ding, Dong, The Kish is GONE!

Every Soap fan around the world knew that this day was coming, that the One Life to Live KISH boys would be wrapping up their story incompletely this past Monday.

But the time has come to look back on the success that the story had, and to look forward to the careers of these two brave and talented actors.

I believe we have all said our piece by now, including Denial Island's own Melanie with her 'Big Kish Off', so I will try to not go on to big of a rant here. The one thing I DO have to say, is while I may not have been the biggest KISH fanboy, I seriously do not think that the KISH storyline is what was forcing Middle America to tune out of OLTL, I think it was the horrible writing, the terrible storylines, oh and a little thing called Mitch "Cartoon" Lawrance attempting to RAPE his daughter...but hey what do I know right?

Anyways Kish is gone, so will Middle America tune in? Or is One Lifes ratings going to tank and cancellation upon us? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Neighbours Begins An Online Female Talent Search!

The time is here for all you female Neighbours fans who are 18+ Because UK network Five is hosting an ONLINE talent search for a new (possibly recast?) role!

This is not the first time a soap has cast an actor off online auditions, the Channel 4 teen soap Hollyoaks did the same thing this time last year.

Now before you run off to start filming yourself, let's get some tips from the pro's as Neighbours casting director gives a few pointers for beginners.

*Sigh* Now if only it was open to us blokes :(, oh well maybe next time right?

So what do you think of casting a role off an online audition? Do you think a US soap would ever try it? Let me hear your thoughts in the comments below

Dark Shadows in 3D!

Everyone's favorite gothic soap opera Dark Shadows is returning to the screen, but with a twist! This time the vampire drama will be in 3-D!!!!!

Yes Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's big screen adaptation of the ABC sudser will in fact be in 3-D......and I think the whole world cried....or maybe that's just me?

What do you think of the 3D revolution? Are you looking forward to DS more now that you know its going to be in 3D? Does that turn you off? Or is it just an added bonus? Tell me what you think in the comments below.

Emily Symons Wouldn't Rule Out Emmerdale Return

Digitalspy is reporting that former Emmerdale (and current Home and Away) star Emily Symons would not rule out a return to the UK sudser if the right circumstances arise.

The actress did say that Summerbay is her priority at the moment and she plans on sticking around for awhile, but never the less she could be coming back to the UK if things go south.

Would you want her to return to Emmerdale? I personally never watched her on ED, but if she returns I might have a reason to check the show out seeing as Marilyn is quickly becoming my favorite character on Home and Away.

Neighbours Promo: The Truth About Donna's Dad

It looks like things are heating up this week on Neighbours as we see lies and deception come to play as Donna's search for her father comes to an end...or does it?

Are you watching Neighbours? If so what are your thoughts on the current storylines? Let me know in the comments below.

Hermaphrodite plot scratched for 'Hollyoaks'?

Is Hollyoaks the new Passions? Digitalspy just reported that a purposed hermaphrodite plot that was supposed to 'improve' ratings was just scrapped due to the actor chosen for the role refusing to play it.

Now, I am not one to say "Hermaphrodite" storylines are what the industry really needs, but an actor who is selected for that role, should have to play out the role correct? I just get a strange Chris Egine feeling from this story.

Anyways would you have been interested in this story? Or are you glad they axed it?

A Bittersweet ATWT

How great was As The World Turns today? I was teary-eyed through the whole show! Of course there was never any doubt that Kim and Bob would be married, but how wonderful was it to see the flashbacks and to watch Bob and Kim pour their hearts out to each other (Don Hastings and Kathryn Hays were perfect.) Their scenes together today moved me in a way that no plot driven, gimmicky sweeps stunt ever has. Great acting, brilliant writing and characters that I love and care about just talking to each other, that's Must See TV for me - imagine that!

Like so many others, I was excited to see Julianne Moore return to the show, but do you know what I was most happy about? That her return didn't overshadow everything else. It was great having her back and she fit right in, but the episode was about Kim and Bob and Frannie's return added to that, it didn't take away from it.

Sure, the episode wasn't perfect (I could have done without Saint Allison and her crazy 5 inch long eyelashes) but it was close to it. While I enjoyed the episode tremendously, it was certainly bittersweet. I still can't believe it'll be off the air soon. It seems so wrong that the world will soon be without these wonderful characters who we've all come to love. But I guess we should be thankful that we got to know them at all. As Bob said:

"Each and every day that the world turns has been a blessing and a joy."

One Year Ago Today...

It was one year ago today that the shockwaves were sent throughout the entire television industry when CBS / Procter & Gamble (YES I am blaming them as well) canceled the worlds longest running serialized drama Guiding Light.

Okay let's get to discussing this. First off I was not Guiding Light's biggest fan over the past decade, I really couldn't get into the show, but the final (two) years were brilliant (with major exceptions). I fell head over heels inlove with the characters in Springfield and the world that they inhabited.

Reva, Josh, Shayne, Dinah, Philip, James and DAISY! I mean there were so many characters that I just came to know and became part of my life, and it is painful to think of my life with out them.

Yes it has been a year since the cancellation, but if I am any representation of a soap fan, we have not forgotten. While we may give our shows crap, and act like some storylines never happened, we do not want to see our favorite shows go away.

We will be a fan of these shows....

"Always."
