Kassie DePaiva Say's No Plans To Return To General Hospital!

Well that wasn't what I wanted to hear! The lovely and talented Kassie DePaiva has announced on twitter into a fan's question of when she will be returning, that there are no plans for her to return to General Hospital!

WHY there are no plans is BEYOND me, and goes against a few other things that I heard were in the works...hopefully they can get a deal done and we can have Blair back on my tv screen fighting after her TAWD....

Catherine Hickland Says "Soap Fans Are Being Heard"

Interesting - former One Life To Live actress Catherine Hickland rally's fans saying that they are being heard by people in charge, especially at other networks, and that there is still a possibility of these shows coming back.

Now was this just wishful thinking and trying to put herself in a good light or is there actually a shot at these shows returning? I would love to be an optimist and say "there is always a chance" but at the same time I kinda feel like the optimum time for One Life to Live to have returned has past, and that while there are still fans out there that would follow it, the show has lost the momentum it would have had, if Prospect park had continued on with their efforts.

Van Hughes Bringing Cole Thornhart to General Hospital!

We all kinda knew this one was coming! It's been confirmed that actor Van Hughes will be bringing the One Life to Live character Cole Thornhart over to General Hospital to help wrap up Cole's relationship with Starr Manning (essentially freeing her up to go be with 'someone else', until cancellation rolls around and she dumps her current boyfriend for Cole all over again...yeah I'm a bitter James fan and what?).

I am happy to hear this news; I was wondering how they would address this issue and I am glad to see they are taking the time to at least give the coupling some closure and undo the happy ending realistically vs. off camera.

Nickelodeon Picks Up New English Telenovela Reach for a Star

Great news soap fans Nickelodeon has picked up a new telenovela "Reach For A Star" to begin airing later this year.

Based off Alcanzar una Estrella a 100 episode Mexican Telenovela, "Reach for a Star" follows a smart, shy and independent high school senior, Loren, who has ambitions of being a songwriter and secretly sends her song lyrics to her celebrity crush, rock superstar Eddie Wild. Loren’s wildest dreams come true when she not only wins a songwriting competition sponsored by Eddie, but strikes up a friendship with her idol. Eddie sees beyond Loren’s potential as a songwriter and gives her a first break as a singer, and when the truth about his less-than-faithful girlfriend Chloe is revealed, Eddie and Loren’s friendship blossoms.

Viki's Speech on One Life to Live (Finale)

Viki: Megan actually passed away nearly 20 years ago, but I-I still to this day get stopped on the street by "Fraternity Row" fans who remember the characters that she played. And some ask how she's doing or will she ever return, but I must tell you that there are times I get so caught up in the show that I find myself wondering the same thing. The fans are so loyal, so passionate, so invested in their stories. I always ask how they started watching "Fraternity Row." Some of them were stay-at-home mothers taking a break before their children came home from school. Others were college students with free time between classes. Many of them inherited a love of the show from their parents or their grandparents, who were longtime fans themselves. I remember the first time I tuned in to "Fraternity Row." I was hooked instantly. I needed to know what would happen next to these fascinating people. Would the hero and heroine find their way back to true love? Would the villains get their comeuppance? Or would their crimes go unpunished? Would loving families overcome their obstacles or would their troubles prove too difficult to surmount? Ultimately, that's what soap opera is about -- families. Close families. Rival families. Even families that are unexpected. Or the ones we choose for ourselves. And when a show is lucky enough to be on the air as long as "Fraternity Row" has been on, these families become extensions of our own. The audience might be upset when a favorite actor leaves... but they're always willing to welcome a new one, even when that new cast member is quite different than the one being replaced. After all, this is a place where people come back from the dead, go off to grade school in the morning and come home from high school in the afternoon. Because for every new face, every new couple, every new family, there are long-familiar faces... some who have grown up before our very eyes and a few more we hope to watch grow up. We know them so well. They've become our friends. We yearn for their happiness, especially when it's hard-won. We laugh as they laugh. We cry as they cry. And we can't imagine doing without them. And when things are at their very worst on the show, that's when we seem to enjoy them the most. There's just one thing we have to do to keep them in our lives. Tune in tomorrow.

Is Victor Lord Jr Headed to Port Charles?

It was the biggest soap twist in a long time as Alison Perkins was revealed to be holding Victor Lord Jr. (/Walker Lawrence / The REAL Todd Manning) hostage. But since that point speculation has run rampant as to what this means for the upcoming crossover to General Hospital. So I took it upon myself to do a little digging and here's what I found out.

Initial Reactions to the One Life to Live Finale

Its been two hours since the end of One Life to Live and fans are divided as ever as to what the ending meant and the actually quality of what was done. Were there points that the episode hit that made it one of the best hours in television in awhile? YES, but at the same time were there those missing moments that left us disappointed? Of course. So now with those two short hours under our belts I decided it was time to sit back and analyze the ending, looking at what worked, what was missing, and what this meant and means for the future of Llanview.

One Life to Live Finale - Thursday 01/12/12

Well I got about 1 minute into today's episode before I started welling up. I wondered if the Fraternity Row thing (even though it's a part of OLTL history) would come across as too gimmicky or just too meta, but you know what? It was perfect. It served as a nice Valentine to fans and soaps in general. How wonderful and brilliant to have Agnes Nixon talk about what makes the show (and all soaps) so special.

One Life to Live Finale - Wednesday 01/11/12

This ep could be title Closure. We had a bunch of people being honest with each other, apologizing, setting the record straight, etc, etc... A few endings and a bunch of new beginnings. Overall, I thought the ep was pretty good.

The Mannings & McBain Head to Port Charles Promo

Literally hours after the announcement was made that both the Manning family and John McBain will be heading to General Hospital this February, ABC has now put out a cross over promo trying to get the One Life to Live fans excited and to tune in.

I for one am really looking forward to the event. Yeah I have issues with the Manning family crossing over and McBain given the way One Life to Live is going out (these last three episodes better help tie some crap up other wise Ron Carlivati will have some 'splaining to do).

One Life to Live Finale - Tuesday 01/10/12

Well I just can't seem to get on the same page as OLTL fans. I gave a C grade to yesterday's ep that had people raving, while I really enjoyed today's ep, which got a lukewarm response from a lot of fans. Go figure.

Well today's ep didn't have comebacks of fan favorites or big cliffhangers (I don't consider Jessica's paternity to be a cliffhanger because we all know how that's going to turn out, don't we?), but it did have a lot going for it. The fake out at the beginning with the RIP Cole headline was a nice touch. I was thisclose to cursing out Carlivati for killing my Cole and I had to laugh when it turned out he wasn't dead. I also thought it was an interesting decision to tell a lot of the story through flashbacks.

I couldn't believe my eyes (and it took several people to convince me it was true) but Ron Carlivati, former Headwriter of One Life to Live (*sniff* *sniff*) and new HW at General Hospital is on twitter! Kristen Alderson Sings "One Life" - OLTL 1-6-2012

Gone are the days of "say a little prayer for me", because we now sing out prayers- and cry the whole time doing it. Kristen Alderson knocked it out of the park on the January 6 One Life To Live episode as she sang "One Life" to an amazingly chilling montage.

One Life To Live Finale - Monday 01/09/12

Ok, so this post was totally unplanned (see our SoapWikiJohn's post about out OLTL Finale Coverage), but after exchanging a few emails with SWJ about today's OLTL ep, I figured I'd post my thoughts here. I've barely watched the show this past year, so let me know if I make any mistakes or misspeak. *Be warned, Carlivati fanboys/girls, you might not like what I have to say.

As a soap fan, I love it when old faves come back. Seeing Megan, Luna and Gabrielle was a lot of fun and since I haven't been reading any spoilers, their returns were also a wonderful surprise. Jessica Tuck, Susan Batten and Fiona Hutchison are wonderful actresses and were incredibly popular with fans, so bringing them back was a real treat.

Denial Island's One Life to Live Finale Coverage

Hey all, I know it's been a bit quite on the island itself these last few weeks, but that's because a project we have been working on has basically taken all of our free time away. We have unfortunately come to the end of yet another soap opera.

Since I began working on Denial Island I have watched the death of two soaps, As The World Turns & All My Children. Prior to that I blogged about the end of Guiding Light for another soap site and suffered the loss of Passions (my first soap) just prior to beginning work for the other site.

With that said I take the loss of this show straight to heart because losing any series is hard to do, but one with such history and longevity as One Life to Live it hurts, in more ways than one.

So what is the "official" plan for Denial Island's coverage of this epic event?

Well with day 1 of 5 already completed we decided that "live blogging" the week would be to much work, also while the Live Blog is fun, it isn't as community driven as I really would like it to be at this point, and takes way to much time and preperation than I have to give at this point in time.

Instead I will be "Live Tweeting" the event daily on twitter @SoapWikiJohn.

I have a lot of ideas right now circling my head about coverage about the end of One Life and what it has meant to fans over the years, but considering this is off the top of my head we will just have to wait and see how things turn out won't we?

I know this week is going to be hard for a LOT of people, losing a soap is like losing a family member; it was a constant in your life, that has now unceremoniously been torn to pieces, but we will survive and figure out a way to continue enjoying this genre, be it via Web Soaps, or International Soaps, the art of daily on-going serialize will continue, and I hope you will join us for the next step, because like the show we only have One Life to Live.

Actress Ellen Holly (Carla/Clara, OLTL) Sets Record Straight Re: ABC, OLTL, Agnes Nixon

For decades Agnes Nixon has been praised for the groundbreaking, topical and often controversial stories featured on the early years of her soaps All My Children and One Life to Live. One such story on OLTL was that of Carla Benari/Clara Gray - a light skinned black woman passing herself off as a white woman, who romanced both a black and white man. To this day television historians discuss the story and Nixon herself mentions it frequently as a story she's still very proud of (it's featured on her website as an important event on her 1960s timeline feature). Unfortunately, there's another side to the story.

RavenBeauty Holiday Extravaganza on Silas Kain BlogTalk Show

It's not often that a BlogTalk Radio show gets me all teary-eyed, but that's what happened when I listened to Silas Kain's RavenBeauty Holiday Extravaganza. Most of you ABC Soap fans know RavenBeauty. She's a hugely popular soap columnist/spoiler diva that's been around forever. Silas Kain is known to soap fans as the mastermind and driving force of the Coupon Campaign to Save Our Soaps. They're together again on his BlogTalk Radio show to celebrate soaps, soap fans and RavenBeauty herself.  It was great to hear so many people showing their love and appreciation for RavenBeauty, who has been dealing with health issues recently. It was really very touching.

And there were some celebrity appearances! There was a Nora/Lindsay reunion (Hillary B. Smith and Catherine Hickland are so sweet and hilarious), Andrea Evans talked about her iconic role as Tina on OLTL, as well as her battle with cancer, and Ilene Kristen smack talked Brian Frons, discussed soaps and soap fans, and talked about her experiences at OLTL and what she would have liked to have seen for her character Roxie (a love interest, a more adversarial relationship with Vicki, for Jessica to have been Roxie's daughter.) And while she had very positive things to say about OLTL Exec Producer Frank Valentini and HW Ron Carlivati, she did mention that no one informed her of the Echo/Rex story and felt she'd been thrown under the bus in a way. I hear Michael E. Knight was on too, but there were a few times when BlogTalk was acting crazy for me (BlogTalk hates my computer for some reason), so that must have been when Knight called in because I didn't hear him at all...
