General Hospital's Last Air Date In Current Time Slot SET!

While this news has been out for awhile it hasn't quite sunk into the soaposphere so I am going to post it. As of today (January 26th 2012), the very last episode of ABC's soap opera General Hospital will air on Wednesday- September 5th 2012 in its current 2pm cst/3pm est timeslot. while this isn't necessarily the end of General Hospital, it is not in anyway good news.

We wish the cast and crew at General Hospital the best of luck in the coming days, because they will all need it. Stay tuned to Denial Island for more coverage as the fate of General Hospital continues to develop.

    1. This Bites, Why are you people doing this to us. first it was oltl now GH? Come on ABC give us a break. Millions of people have grown up with this show. Why not kill some of the reality shows and leave our soaps alone. I REFUSE to buy any more disney movies or allow my family to watch anything related to disney if this crap doesnt stop. To all of the fans out there, it seems a boycott is in order on ABC and Disney if they continue with this insanity!!

    2. If GH is cancelled its a business decision, not a popular one but still business decision. I've watched GH for 42 yrs, but when its gone I'll simply move on. Eventually all daytime serials will be gone off network television. They are too expensive to produce and the audience is nowhere near as large as it once was. Networks want to save money and move on to the next big trends in broadcasting. Life goes on.

    3. Well this has been coming for awhile. Too bad.... So sad.... NOT really. GH Powers that Be trashed this show. It's not a huge surprise.
Winning any awards makes no differecnse to me. This soap trashed it's history, it's fan base. Etc....
I see a day where there are No soaps.
      Goodbye.

    4. ABC7 Why is it you think you know what the viewers want. Believe us when we say that we don't want anymore talk show nonsense. How do you think ABC7 has been in the top ratings up until you have taken all the soaps off. We want to continue to see the Soaps or we will have no other choice to move it over to CBS2. YATR and BATB. I have even stopped watching channel 7 news and have moved to 2. It surprises me that you haven't messed with DWTS yet. Another thriving show that so many love. How long before you rip that one off the air. That is the only show I will watch if you go through with killing GH. What is wrong with the management? Too many drugs or just brain dead?

  2. It's true, Katie is a coming September 6th, and I am upset with that news. I do hope that it will take one of the soap replacement timeslots but only time will tell...

As for tuning ABC off, in all honesty I can't do that. I LOVE soaps, trust me I probably devoted way more of my life to watching these programs than any sane person would /should. I mean on average I am watching 14-15 soaps a year, so yea add up all of those characters, history, and trying to keep things straight and keep caught up with everything you have a had time LOL but I don't think I could blame the actors, crews, and everyone else that would lose their jobs if other ABC primetime shows were to be boycotted as a result of TIIC choices. YES I do love GH, but I alos love Revenge, Modern Family, Grey's, PP, etc and I am not willing to give all of those up because they canceled my show, does it hurt? Yea but I am not going to punish myself further by taking away things I enjoy just to "get back at them".

    1. Well, I am willing to give them up. I've been boycotting ABC since April 2011. They took off my 2 other soaps and now they're cancelling GH. GH is the only show I watch on ABC. Yes, It's very hard to give up some evening shows I like. I like Revenge too. And DWTS etc., but if we let ABC cancel shows that fans have been enjoying for 43 years, then they deserve to go "down the tubes". The soaps make them good money, but not enough. Too many employees to pay. A talk show uses ALOT less people, and ABC is just GREEDY. You say you won't give up your evening shows.. well good luck honey, see how you feel when your very favorite nite-time show is taken off the air!!!

    2. Dude I know the feeling, lets just list the series I have watched and had canceled on ABC:

Boy Meets World, Dharma & Greg, The Hughleys, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, My Wife and Kids, Invasion, LOST, October Road, Travler, Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daises, V, Life on mars, fastforward, etc etc, so yea I understand ABC axing my favorite night time shows, but its just the way it is in business. Knots landing was still pulling in viewers when it got the axe back in the 90's but it was becoming super expensive.

I am still holding out hope that GH will stay on the air, but I don't think I could punish myself and not watch things I enjoy just to "stick it to the man". Now if I were a Nielsen family that'd be different...

    2. I also just watch GH & Ellen since the cancellation of the other two shows with NO plans on watching ANYTHING but Ellen on daytime ABC if they cancel GH. And it's very possible I won't watch that either. NOT a big REALITY fan......way too many of those shows as it is!

  6. @ Barbara - SAME here! I will not be tuning into any of their current daytime replacements. IF they pick up a new soap in the future I may consider picking that up, and I am sure that day will come, its just a matter of how long until it gets here LOL.

Thanks everyone for the comments! Keep um coming!

  7. I will continue to watch The View, but as for other crap shows after that....I'm out! Keep GH!

  8. So sad. ABC is not listening to its' audience and I will not watch their daytime line-up if they cancel GH. Thank goodness for Days of Our Lives and Young and the Restless!

  9. Hate The View and I haven't watched ABC since they cancelled All My Children. It was the only show I watched on ABC.

  10. @Anonymous 1 - *nods* I understand

@Anonymous 2- YES! Thank goodness for Days, Y&R, B&B and all the international soaps! Otherwise i'd be going crazy!

@Anonymous 3- Yep, I know a lot of people haven't and I completely understand! It sucks to feel like turning off a network but sometimes it helps you feel better :)

  11. I am so saddened by this news. It seems that no one listens to the daytime viewers. Our only hope is that there is a smart cable executive out there who is paying attention. BTW I have not watched abc since it removed OLTL.

  12. We knew this was coming. I don't watch GH. My show was OLTL, which was the best, in my opinion. Still, ABC/D is being totally asinine by removing three programs for this new garbage.

  13. I only watch GH on ABC have already blocked all the Disney channels on my Dish network. There really are very few scripted shows left on ABC. They keep cancelling them. So I don't feel as if I am missing too much by boycotting them. Disney on the other hand I will never buy another movie made by them. And that is saying alot because I used to mave almost all of them. They didn't care about their fans I do not care about them. Won't be going to any of their parks either .

  14. Thanks guys for all the comments!

@Anonymous 1- It is really sad to see this happen! And I have actually heard that cable executives are listening, and that there are a few things in development, the upcoming Nick telenovela is a sign of good things to come trust me!

@Anonymous 2- Yea it was really stupid, and I know you said you don't watch GH, but will you be tuning in to see the OLTL'ers make the transition over?

@Anonymous 3- Yea it is hard to watch tv shows and see them canceled. My first love was primetime television so I have a soft spot for it and continue to watch way more primetime series than anyone should, but I have become acustomed to having great tv series leave season after season, with no real closure and with endings that just don't seem like endings. I think AMC and OLTL while highly controversial and not what EVERYONE would have wanted or chose did a great job wrapping things up and making me want to tune in tomorrow, which is what a soap ending should do, leave me wanting more and knowing that the stories of my favorite characters are still going on like my life and maybe one day if I am really really lucky i will get to see them again, fingers crossed that day will come for these ABC soaps.

  15. I used to watch GH and am still familiar with the characters. I have been watching since OLTL went off the air and will continue watching to show loyalty. It will be nice to see the Mannings and John on the show. I hope the GH people are ok with them coming on. It would be so nice if OLTL, and AMC and GH, if it gets cancelled, could somehow merge into one story, if they can't have them return, which of course would be ideal. sigh... I am hating on ABC right now. (but I do love "Revenge")

  16. GH fans seem a bit mixed with the upcoming characters, they understand why and like it better than newbies, but don't want it to be O-GH-TL LOL! And I understand...

I'd also love a spinoff which merged the three shows, kinda like an updated "The City" was for loving lol.

REVENGE is sooooo soapy good! its one of my favorites this season, and I love Emily Van Camp so i'll follow her anywhere lol.

  17. I am going to think positive. I pray FV succeeds in keeping GH on for awhile. I don't bury anything before it's dead and gone, and GH isn't yet. I am happily looking forward to ME, RH, KA, and KPD on there and I know if we show support, we can save it. If fans keep passing around word it is cancelled, ABC is bad enough to say "Well, if fans are going to say it's canceled anyway, we may as well cancel it!"! So I will not do that. It is now my fave show on TV and I am all about supporting GH, FV, RC, ME, RH, KA, KDP, and everyone at GH.

  18. I Promise if this is true that will be the VERY last day I tune into ABC. But then since I am over age 49 I dont count anyway...
I already have quite daytime abc, with their Bullshit promgraming giving up night time ABC will be even easier.

  19. Please how can a talk show replace a long time running amazing show like GH (over 40 years). Will see how long Katie Couric lasts.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I wonder if the decline of the soap opera is a natural result of reality tv - people living their lives with day to day drama. I will say that in 40 years of watching GH on and off, I am finally turned completely off by the invasion of the Mannings. I just don't care about them and they are really bad actors.

  21. abc has announced that Katie Courics show will premier monday september 10 at 3 eastern.

  22. I recently started watching GH again. I haven't watched it since the early 1990's. Most of the longtime characters had disappeared which left little connection for me. I turned it on because The Mannings and John McBain were coming on. Of course, the timing sucked seeing Robin killed off. I used to watched her as a little girl. It has been nice to see some of the GH characters that existed in the 80's again. I am 45 and have been hardbroken over All My Children and One Life To Live. GH is the only show on ABC I will even turn on now. ABC wants cheap. They can't even throw us a bone. They could keep SoapNet on and start all 3 soaps from as far back as they can go(70'/80's). Look at the new stories fans could enjoy. Think about how in the beginning there was no way to record them. Even stories after all of these years have beoome foggy. How's that for cheap? SOS Save Our Stories! DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REAL ADDRESS FOR THE SOAP FANS TO WRITE? Too many websites, too many blogs sites, too easy to ignore us! We need a whole ABC office building dump with hand written mail. I really think they don't know how many of us there are out here. Not all older fans even participate on the internet. The can't account for people who watch on the internet, the weekends, even your DVR only counts now if you watch it on the same day. What about the fans watching in nursing homes 20-30 at a time. Maybe with a mail-dump campaign they might just see how many ABC soap fans they have outraged, and how many viewers they have actually lost! Bring back All My Children, One Live To Live, and leave General Hospital alone. No Chew! No Revolution! No Katie Couric!

  23. i've been watching GH for quite a few years now
and its declined storyline wise. No one cares about
sonny yet the make the entire show about him and,
maurice bernard is a horrible actor. i think
they realize that too mutch damage has been done
and they can't save Gh so if katie curics new show
is the mercy bullet let it happen becuse do we realy
want a soap about the mob and death. I don't
let GH die peacefully now and not when they truely
    don't care anymore
