Coronation Street: Good-Bye Becky!

So I just had the opportunity to screen Becky Granger-McDonald's final episodes of Coronation Street and I wanted to take a moment and just reflect on her tenure on the street.

When I first started checking into the street on a regular bases in 2008, Becky was a bit shall we say out there. But it was her relationship with Steve McDonald that really hooked me on the program and it was through that relationship that I grew to really love Becky. She began opening herself up both emotionally and physically to whatever the world would throw at her.

She still maintained her insecurities and upon learning she couldn't have children really showed another side to the character that we hadn't really seen before. But for yet another brief moment we got to see the character of Becky shine as she got to take care of her nephew Max(ie) as if he was her own.

Becky wouldn't take crap, she didn't care if you were a former lover,(Jason), an evil snake (Tracy Barlow), or even her own sister,(Kylie), Becky would take you head on and you better bring your A Game to the match or else she will beat the living day-lights out of you.

To borrow a line from The Help, Becky was kind, she was smart, but most of all she was important. She warmed her way into the heart of a nation, and viewers around the world. The great news is there are still new Becky fan's to come as she is about to make her debut on the street later this year in Australia (on 7two) and more than likely many other locations as well.

Becky will be truly missed, and I look forward to the day when she will return, but until then I wish Katherine Kelly the best of luck in all her endeavors because we here on the island will be watching.

What are your thoughts? Did you like Becky's exit? Did you like Becky as a character? Do you think she will be back? Let me know in the comments below or on twitter @SoapWikiJohn
